Occupy Wall Street
Occupy Wall Street is a portrait series taken at Zuccotti Park, NYC and Oakland, CA. Through this project I photographed 1,000 men and women in uniform, students, teachers, veterans, pilots, families, children, and even wall street employees, and members of the 1% that seek change for our country.
My process was simple: I set-up a photo booth at Zuccotti Park, handed people a dry-eraser board and a marker and asked them to write their reason for being at Occupy Wall Street. The end result was consistently a quiet and emotional portrait. This project was about humanizing the image of the "OWS protester" that was created by mainstream media. Additionally, this was about documenting a moment in time where thousands came together with a shared common set of values: make this world a more decent place for all.
